Portraiture

Selected portraiture works, 2024 and ongoing.

The way I emphasise the characteristics of the people I portray is through the choice of lighting. I want to accentuate the interesting and the emotive, not a likeness. By adding color to my portraits, I bring out what was important to me. We shouldn't think of portraits so much as looking into the soul of another person. It's more about the baggage that I bring into the room and the baggage that the person portrayed brings into the room. And this meeting, this clash of two people, creates something completely new.

My current work delves into an intense exploration of the expression of inner states through abstract and graphic elements. In these portraits, the models become projections of emotional conditions, where colour and texture make visible the invisible struggles and thoughts. Through the play of contrasts and a reduced aesthetic, I aim to strike a balance between restraint and expressive power. With this series, I seek not only to create aesthetically pleasing images but also to evoke an emotional resonance that encourages the viewer to reflect on the inner world of the depicted subjects. The visual portrayal of emotions and the dialogue between calmness and expressiveness lie at the heart of these works, which in their simplicity, seek a deeper, universal truth.
